Ministries
Worship
We view worship as one of the primary purposes of the church. While it is ultimately for and about God, worship changes us in ways that cannot be described, only experienced. We offer two morning worship services with slightly different formats. Our 9:00 is in a more traditional worship style and our 11:00 is more musically blended. Our Sunday evening worship is very informal and meets in the Fellowship Hall at 6:00. Our youth and children meet for discipleship during that timeslot. Wednesday evenings bring an even more informal atmosphere for in-depth adult Bible study with the pastor. While the youth and children experience their own time of worship and discipleship in their respective areas of our campus, the adults meet in Fellowship Hall at 6:30.
Sunday School
Our Sunday School ministry provides fellowship and Bible study every week for all ages. Classes for kids, youth, singles, married couples, seperate mens and womens groups, and nursery are available. Greeters are available at every entrance each week to assist with helping guests find appropriate classes for themselves and/or each member of their family.
Discipleship
The Discipleship Ministry at FBC seeks to provide a well-rounded approach to deepen our congregation's faith. We offer various ongoing classes and specific studies on Sunday evenings, Wednesday evenings, and various other times throughout the week.
Children
We have a comprehensive Children's Ministry for kids of all ages. Weekly Sunday opportunities include AM Sunday School and PM Discipleship Training. Wednesday evenings during the school year adds components such as music, GA's, RA's, sports, and craft options for the kids. Summer is full of additional activities as well, including Vacation Bible School, children's summer camps and various trips and activities.
Youth
Our Youth Ministry goal is to FOCUS: Finding Out How Christ Uses Students. We do that through Bible study on Sunday mornings (9:00 AM), Sunday evenings (6:00 PM) and Wednesday evenings (6:30 PM). In addition, during the school year we have prayer breakfast every Wednesday morning at 7:15 AM. The Youth Ministry also offers opportunities for youth camps and mission trips, and involves the youth in fun activities to build a sense of fellowship and community.
Our youth meet in their own facility called the Rubel House. This historic Corinthian house and "The Annex", an attached state-of-the-art worship facility, are located across Jackson Street from our main campus.
Sr. Adult
Our Senior Adult ministry is very active at FBC. Our Primetimers group meets once a month for a meal and insightful program. In addition, trips are scheduled periodically for fun and spiritual enrichment.
Library
The Library Ministry provides wonderful resources and services to the organizations and members of First Baptist and others as needed. The library features a large collection of Christian based fiction and non-fiction books for adults and children. Most of the resources are available to be checked out. The library is located on the second floor (Main Level) of the church between the Sanctuary and Fellowship Hall. See our "Links" section below to view our online catalog.
Music and Worship Arts
Our Music and Worship Arts Ministry stays very active throughout the year. Our Adult Choir leads worship every Sunday morning. In addition, at Christmas our Adult and Youth Choirs combine to become the featured vocal presence of our annual Singing Christmas Tree. Our Youth Worship Arts Ministry seeks to help our students deepen their worship lives through the medium of the arts such as singing, drama, instrumental ensembles, and video. Our Kids Worship Arts Ministry seeks to help our kids learn to be worshippers by developing various artistic skills such as handbells, percussion, guitars, and drama. Finally, our dedicated technology ministry serves in a support capacity to help all facets of our church's ministry be successful.
Worship Arts Academy
Our church has established an Academy whose mission is to offer private and group lessons taught by outstanding Christian teachers in various areas of the worship arts. Our goal is to develop and enhance each student’s God-given talent in a manner that can be used for His glory. We currently offer lessons in piano, organ, voice, drums, and guitar.
Missions
First Baptist is a very missions-minded church. We are a strong supporter of the Southern Baptist Cooperative Program which sponsors thousands of missionaries world-wide. In addition, our congregation has adopted very specific mission causes. We have members of our congregation who spend several hours each week ministering to our local prison inmates, serve with men's and women's recovery ministries, work in the Clothes Closet located on our campus, and assisting at the Baptist Association food pantry. Sunday school classes collect used literature to deliver to a warehouse ministry to disperse to needy congregations. At Christmas, we send shoeboxes through Samaritans purse to kids throughout the world. Finally, members of our congregation spend several days each year in local, national, and international mission trips. We truly are attempting to impact the world for Christ.
